Sedona
Sedona - named for the wife of the town's first postmaster T.Carl Schnebly, may not be everyone's cup of tea, herbal or otherwise.
Sedona attracts 4 million visitors a year, chiefly as a New Age resort town! The reason for this is obvious, the town is the heart chakra of the planet, this was discovered, by one Page Bryant, in the 1980's and the town has not looked back since. Prior to this discovery, the town had rubbed along nicely as a small town with farming as its chief source of revenue.
Prices for psychic channelling, tarot readings, crystal aura studies, colonic irrigation are steep but there is much to recommend the town to a non-believer.
Sedona was recently voted the most beautiful city in the country by USA Today and there are plenty of non-new-age attractions to keep anyone occupied.
The countryside that surrounds the town is spectacular with a kind of otherworldly appearance to it. Most striking is the nearby Red Rocks country, scenery that is wreathed in Native American myth and legend. The countryside is loaded with opportunities to commune with the great outdoors either by hiking, organised excursions or for the more adventurous, jeep tours. However you do it, explore; it is worth it. Guided tours of the numerous New Age sites are also available.
The town itself offers numerous golf courses, decent arty-crafty shopping, whilst the restaurants and hotels are of the highest order.
Photographic experts' think the light around Sedona has an exceptional quality which, coupled with the scenery, means you should definitely bring your camera.
